About David Hompes

My own personal journey back to health after a period of great stress has given me a fantastic insight into exactly why people become ill or dissatisfied with their lives and has equipped me with the empathy, knowledge and tools that can help them return to optimal health & happiness. You can read about my story here.

I grew up in Leeds and developed a strong interest in biology and ecology at school. I received a degree in Sports Science and Geography/Ecology at Loughborough University in 1996 and began working as a Personal Trainer shortly thereafter. In 1998 I graduated with a Masters degree in Sports Science, and was fortunate enough to work with the England Rugby Union squad prior to the 1999 World Cup. I then opted for a change of scenery as I travelled through South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand for 15 months.

On my return I took a position as Head of Health & Fitness at Northumbria University, where I lectured in many aspects of health, nutrition and fitness conditioning as well as working with the University and North East region’s elite athletes.

I eventually set up a business in Newcastle Upon Tyne, made some erroneous decisions and invested a lot of time and money into a project that did not take off. The stress, which had a knock on effect on other areas of my life, created a situation where my health began to deteriorate. This was the catalyst that led me to investigate the impact of stress on health.

I studied and read extensively and it soon became clear to me that many factors in modern lifestyle affect health. Sleep, diet, stress, toxicity and exercise are the five main pieces of the jigsaw and are all related because they impact the three key systems of the body: the hormone system, digestive system & detoxification system. In fact, nearly all health problems result from imbalances in these three systems.

My teachers and mentors over the last five years have included medical doctors, chiropractors and many others who have great success helping people using natural therapies. Many of their books and audios are available on this site. Some of these practitioners have personally helped me to overcome my health concerns, especially Dr Daniel Kalish, with whom I am currently studying Functional Medicine.

My educational and professional credentials include:

• B.Sc. Sports Science & Geography/Ecology
• M.Sc. Sports Science
• C.H.E.K. Practitioner, Level I
• C.H.E.K. Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Level II
• C.H.E.K Personal, Professional & Spiritual Self Mastery Coach, Level I
• Certified Metabolic Typing advisor, Level II
• Practitioner of Functional Medicine
